Dr. Walt Baxter measures the physiologic use conditions of implanted devices at Medtronic, most recently within the Cardiac Rhythm Management Group where he helps develop leads and catheters for use in the cardiovascular system. Walt has also worked in the Neuromodulation Group where he helped develop similar products for use in the nervous system. Walt is a Medtronic Bakken Fellow—the Company’s highest technical honor—and serves as a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) where he helps elected representatives in the United States understand how Medical and Biological Engineering impacts the lives of people around the world. Walt is also an active Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society, where he helped lead the FDA/BMES Frontiers in Medical Devices conference bringing medical device modeling and simulation experts together across government, academia, and industry. He lectures several times each year at various Universities and co-chairs the University of California’s Bioengineering Institute of California Industry Liaison Committee, a board of advisors who help connect all ten University of California Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering Departments to the thriving medtech, biotech, and pharma industries in the state. Prior to joining Medtronic, Walt studied Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and obtained a Ph.D. in Bioengineering at the University of California, San Diego.
