Chief Scientist, CASIS
Dr. Randy Giles serves as the Chief Scientist for CASIS, the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, where under a cooperative agreement with NASA he is responsible for the scientific direction of the ISS US National Laboratory. Prior to joining CASIS, Dr. Giles worked at Bell Laboratories where he made significant contributions in photonic technologies, including erbium-doped fiber optical amplifiers and micro-electromechanical optical switches, and later led research teams in data analytics, quantum physics, optical networking, and biomedical technologies. From 2009 to 2014, Dr. Giles was the President and Executive Director of Bell Labs Seoul in South Korea where he worked closely with industry, government, and academia in telecommunications-related research programs. Dr. Giles is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America and a Member of the US National Academy of Engineering.
